“Lush gorgeous production.”
“Just what the world needs another ROMEO AND JULIET. I thought but yes!”
“Beautiful. The cast and acting were good. Play down conflict between 2 families.”
“The sets were beautiful, but there is nothing that enhances any other production. I thought the music was cheesy and trite.”
“Much better then Orlando, but why another ROMEO AND JULIET. I missed a lot of Shakespeare in it.”
“The music was over whelming and relentless. Juliet’s acting was awful.”
“Beautiful scenery and sets. Good acting. No good music, it was too melodramatic.”
“Excellent throughout!”
“Paul Giamatti was the best thing about this movie. But I found the screenplay and all the plot remake of the original overdone and gooey. This should have been called Fellowes’ ROMEO AND JULIET. It wasn’t Shakespeare.”
“Bravo for Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti. If the film had only featured their scenes (and the incredible locations where it was shot) it would have been the price of admission. Truly impeccable locales and performances! Booth is so much more beautiful than Steinfeld. How did they screw up that casting? However, neither of them were very impressive in the roles (again, especially being eclipsed by Lewis and Giamatti turns.) Amazingly the two hours running time zips by, a testament to the dazzling design no doubt. After having watched Hailee Steinfeld in TRUE GRIT I was expecting her to be just as incredible here but alas, it did not happen. Here she was serviceable in TRUE GRIT she was indispensable.”
“Wonderful production!”
“Not Zeffirelli! Casting Douglas Booth should have played Juliet. Cut the melodramatic music. Locations Verona and Veneto were the real stars.”
“Fabulous!"
“Beautiful in every way! I wondered why we needed yet another remake of the classic story. But I loved it!”
“Fabulous film!”
“Reader’s Digest version of ROMEO AND JULIET!”
“Marvelous! Wonderful cinematography, art direction, editing, costumes, score and of course screenplay. So many famous lines. First rate acting. Should earn many nominations. I still didn’t like the ending.”
“Giamatti as Friar was marvelous as was the head of the Capulet’s.”
“Trouble with voices not synchronized with lip movement.”
