“Very enjoyable, entertaining and well constructed. Very satisfying plot resolutions. Great music. Dominic Cooper wrote and sang the music. It’s sad that both took such a long time to wake up to want to change her life. Per the discussion it was a black comedy.”
“The gentle rolling hills of the countryside belie what is underneath-human nature. …And we can never get far from the madding crowd. A delightful romp.”
“As for stories- liars and thieves- make for a lot of fun. This was pure enjoyment!”
“A very entertaining and literate film. Well written and well acted. Real good job of casting. Smart and funny…always a winning combination.”
“I thought it was great!”
“I don’t think it was necessary to kill the dog! I really enjoyed the movie on a whole, but felt the stampede scene was a little brutal, it didn’t go with the tone of the rest of the movie.”
“Clever film. Great acting. Very enjoyable. I now want to read Hardy’s ‘FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD’.”
“Petty, ironic justice.”
“A wonderfully enjoyable movie. An irony-riddled story. The dry look at writers, men, and women relationships.”
“Typical format of love triangles amongst a small group of people.”
“The death of the writer and dog was not necessary. Somehow it took to negative emotions at the end too much.”
“What a wonderful black comedy, Frears style. Very ‘far from the madding crowd’ of beauty (its pluses and minuses), adultery, death and the dangers of the brave new world (internet, video cell phone). Here we have an isolated camp where writers can be with their books! Most of the characters were competing: Nicholas vs. Ben vs. Andy, Jody vs. her girlfriend, Tamara vs. Beth, even the dog vs. the owner of the cattle. By the way I loved this movie!”
“Frears is great! The actors are wonderful. Only drawback-an awfully artificial look.”
