Magnificent! The performances and story-telling were moving and spectacular. Special pleasure in the cinematography, a film awash in blood red. Absolutely gorgeous.
Subtitles would help.
A Reservoir Dogs adaptation of Macbeth. Over-the-top.
Needed subtitles!
The most atmospheric, bloody, visually shocking Macbeth I've ever seen. Production was visually stunning. Excellent locations and costumes. Macbeth is seen as weak and Lady Macbeth is the strong one 'til the out damn spot part. Didn't like the chopped up Shakespearean text. People will like this or hate it. I agree with the commentary about the delivery of the 'Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow' speech.
Could not understand a word. Subtitles would have helped.
A magnificent capture of the mood of the play, somber and bleak. I liked the way the film accentuates aspects of the play that are not necessary in the play to make the real points of the play.
I thought this was a mess. Without knowledge of the play I would have found this incoherent. Lady Macbeth, one of the strongest female characters had no emotional strength or depth. Fassbender was okay, but disappointing. The music was scratchy and cacophonous. I think Polanski's Macbeth is a brilliant film which captures the play so brilliantly. Is it fair to compare? This will be forgotten fast.
Bleak from the burial at the beginning, bleak through the endless murders, bleak through battles. Bleak.
I do not believe it would be possible to follow the plot if we did not know it.
Very grim, grimmer than usual. For me, Fassbender doesn't engender the sympathy that Macbeth does for me in other films or especially in reading Macbeth. This is very uneven! Also I'm not thrilled with the editing of the text and switching major speeches, especially Lady Macbeth's 'out damn spot.' I liked the woods burning, it was an interesting choice. At times feels like Macbeth meets Wuthering Heights. I liked the opening with the funeral of Macbeth's child, interesting choice.
Awful. Poorly shot. Too difficult to comprehend what was being said. Too dark in every way, even poor musical score.
Not sure why we need another movie about Macbeth, but the acting was a good depiction of the descent into madness over ambition and greed. The foe i certainly realistic for Scotland. Overly-dramatic, even for Shakespeare!
Visually captivating. Realistic as to honor of combat. The language lacked clarity and power. Sometimes it was unintelligible. It was based on Macbeth but could have been better. Macbeth was morally weak and this film had too many weaknesses.
The lines were often difficult to understand. The production was over done! I should have stayed home!
A powerful story rendered even more powerful by the superb art direction and editing. An interesting reinterpretation and vision of the constant current of violence that propels the narrative. Politics at its most gruesome.
Yes, as per the discussion, mono-tone, in color, in pace, in dialogue delivery (strained, yet somehow flat). For Macbeth to be tragic we must align ourselves with him first. Never happened.
