“I adored everything about this film and always have loved the novel. Ever since I read it in one totally immersed sitting at 14 one summer afternoon. The directing, casting, set design, costuming, cinematography, music were all so delicious. Very Merchant/Ivory. And Anya as Emma was luminescent. From the first cut over credits of Emma walking down the hallway to final one of her closing her eyes were brilliant!” Jeanne K
“The characters were to occasionally hard to fathom. I had not read the book and had problems identifying who was who.”
“Trite, boring and simplistic. Very long and very predictable.”
“An exquisite film!”
“Love stinks except when everyone winds up with the right mate. Or so they say.”
“Just not my cup of tea.”
“What a terrific blend of clever, subtle, social parody and a simple comedy of manners of a different time that still works – and comments on - today. What a treat!”
“I had seen the trailer for this film and knew we were in for everything silly. But I wasn’t prepared for this pleasure of the highly mannered performances.”
“Beautiful film on so many levels. Visually of course, in every way a match for LITTLE WOMEN, but the performances were each lovely and engaging, and the dialogue made me proud of the English language.”
“I want to see this film again, and I suspect again after that. Smart can be fun, literate need not be intimidating. Heck now I want to see CLUELESS again.”
“Thanks to Professor Mary Lindroth for her insights into the novel, really places the film in perspective, love her enthusiasm.”
“Take Downton Abbey back a hundred years or so, add a sense of humor, a lot more color and Jane Austin’s dialogue and this is a wonderfully enjoyable film.”

Why was Mr. Woodhouse so bothered by drafts? It may be because most Europeans believe that drafts can cause ailments—and even death! This article discusses how people in Germany feel about drafts:
