“Superb cast and setting. Delightful story.”
“Good furniture and sweaters. Otherwise I wouldn’t mind to grab some kerosene and set the script and film on fire. Rest in peace ‘GOLDEN BOYS.’”
“Charming!”
“Like a bowl of chowder on a chilly winter day.”
“Somewhat like a Hallmark movie in the beginning, but it began to grow on me once relationships grew. Having spent 2 summers in Chatham I enjoyed seeing spots such as the Post Office in film.”
“A singular waste of talent. Where’s my Capt. Zef?”
“Script was slow and static at times, but salvaged by the capability of the acting.”
“Very evocative of time and place.”
“Yes, it has all the pacing and complexity of a Hallmark movie channel movie, but the cast is terrific, the scenery and setting are superb and the love story has a happy ending. What’s not to like?”
“Sad, lost culture; the film gives us just a little insight into old and aging New England fishermen. Not so golden! House setting felt quite grand for such modest men.”
“Predictable and contrived, but funny and enjoyable. I wonder if this has any appeal to the 30 somethings?”
“Felt like a made for TV story, shot so tight. Corny story, but it was nice to see these actors (all of whom are good) and a 1905 period piece film shot in Cape Cod. Ultimately a formula stereotype dull script.”
“Charming whipped cream, turn of the Century film. It’s hard to imagine anyone disliking watching this extraordinary ensemble work. Perhaps there’s hope for senior love. But…the story was a predictable and made-for-TV one. I am a fanatical fan of ‘BIG LOVE’…it’s hard to imagine him as a good guy when I see each week as a mentally challenging, Mormon sociopath! And why does Rip Torn have to have orange hair?”
“Charming!”
“The dialogue was dreadful! The acting awful! The accents atrocious! Rip Torn’s accent started in Texas and ended with an Irish accent. Pullease!”
“A delicious trifle! A peek at love in the later years, which is very encouraging. Loved the shots of Cape Cod.”
“A warm, sentimental, simple, predictable love story with very little depth and I enjoyed it immensely. Characters were wonderful, although Mariel Hemingway seemed a bit too good to be true.”
“Charming.”
“A sweet way to start the weekend! Great to see those guys again.”
“Charming and very enjoyable.”
“Authentic and sincere, with a feel-good story and a happy ending, and a terrific cast sells this mediocre movie. Escapist movies in tough economic times are making a comeback.” But it’s hard to see this as much of a hit in theaters off Cape Cod.”
“What acting! A very charming and moving film. Relevance of issues to story is the closure. At times I couldn’t understand what was being said.”
“Cute!”
“A male reverse of ‘THE GOLDEN GIRLS,’ sweet and a little touching. Nice atmospheric opening.”
“Definitely not golden!”
“Most enjoyable! The acting was first rate! A feel-good film. Music set the mood. Could taste the ‘N’ in New England Clam Chowder.”
“Charming! A film about character. What a cast. Great underplayed acting. Grasshopper, you have kept your wisdom through the writer’s script. All the actors were wonderful. I enjoyed this slow and steady period piece. It was spot-on for atmosphere and story. A great Saturday morning feel good flick!”
“Scenery was great. Music in beginning was annoying.”
“Nice to see familiar faces back on the screen.”
“Sweet film. Great characters, reminds me of timeless means of finding a mate. Today the internet, years ago the paper.”
“Bruce Dern was miscast. Very slow…pacing was off. Costumes didn’t seem to match time period, especially the men’s suits. Seemed very low budget, especially camera work.”
“Thoroughly enjoyable! A really feel good movie with a happy ending and a distinguished cast, what more could anyone ask for?”
