“I now feel more sympathetic towards parking agents.”
“Quite an (unexpected) gem of a tragic comedy. So relevant to today’s world.”
“Interesting film. This is a lonely character taking meds to give him an escape.”
“I’m astonished this gem of a film has not found broad distribution. I liked it tremendously and appreciated the movement from a documentary-like beginning to a sci-fi fantasy ‘clash of the titans’ finale”
“Rappaport carried this film.”
“Quirky, and imaginative and creative. Looks like David Lynch in paint. For those who love comic book and heroes.”
“Unusual but fascinating. Anyone who strives for significance in am impersonal world – which is everyone – can recognize great truths here. The drug may have been a powerful hallucinogen or little more than a placebo, but we all wish to escape the humdrum and be the hero, from Walter Mitty to the current TV show ‘Heroes.’ Maybe not mass market but intelligent and well crafted.”
“It started off exciting and fascinating, but fell flat at the end, like a hangover. Michael Rappaport was superb.”
“A complete waste of time, film, talent, etc. My 9 year old grandson might relate!”
“Interesting concepts poorly executed. Unbelievably poor technical qualities (wrong choices of lenses, use of unsteady cam, poor selection of shots, and on and on. It had crossed my mind that some or all of these were employed to project mental illness. If so, the big question is ‘Does it work?’) On the other hand, such a truly terrible amateur movie as ‘BLAIR WITCH PROJECT’ became a hit. Illustrating that maybe 1/2 of the movie going public suffer from mental disorders. On the other hand, this might become a huge cult hit like ‘THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW’.”
“This certainly was a ‘special’ of self-indulgence and adolescent fantasies.”
“Who says no one has super powers? It took magical super powers to sit through this violent flick! The only special thing about the film was that the credits rolled by slowly enough to actually read. That’s a first!”
“Good to have two sides. Good intentions on both parties. The taker and the maker gone bad. Michael Rappaport did a good turn as an everyday man’s dissent into madness and comes out on top by overcoming his inner demon. What we all do to be ‘special?’ I like the focus and drive of the movie. It is hardship to look at yourself in the mirror and define one’s self worth. You have to believe it. A movie filled with good intentions.”
“Disturbing drug trials out of control. Sad story and Rappaport is always so intense and focused.”
“Not my brand of entertainment. I did not find any level of entertainment or meaning. I imagine the film to be appropriate for analysis and study by film students.”
“Rappaport’s acting was excellent.”
“I liked it a lot.”
“The cinematography was beautiful. I enjoyed the moments where Lester wandered. I could have watched All 80 minutes of him in front of the microwave and eating his dinner. I understand that the hero aspect was indeed a major part of the film. However, the strongest moments in the film are of Lester’s ‘normal’ life. It doesn’t hold together as whatever it was trying to be.”
“Not so special for me!”
“ ‘Special’ is something he was never made to feel. It made me wonder about his parents and as an educator, his teacher! Are we all at fault? As for power it should be within us, each deed we do empowers us, one deed at a time. Small deeds add up and makes one feel rewarded, confident and special.”
“It was a great concept that a special pill is needed to feel special and important in life. If you believe you’re special, you will act as if you are. Michael Rappaport did that despite mental illness and people putting him down. He found the inner power to believe in himself and that’s the greatest super power there is.”
“They have made a starkly imaginative creation of psychosis.”
“Having been asked to participate in drug studies (and turned them down) I could identify with Michael Rappaport’s character. He was excellent. Remember Des? Thalidomide? Drug companies use human guinea pigs with impunity and the FDA looks the other way. The drug lobbyists are highly successful. Drug induced mental illness is scary stuff…but, sometimes it can make the person feel ‘special’. I really liked the film and did go with it; it was just too long.”
“So unpleasant. Yet I’m sure people go to extreme to protect their $ $. Rappaport looks like Al Bundy.”
“Roger Corman, where are you?”
