“ ‘SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE’ is an amazing movie for so many reasons. I don’t know where to begin. The movie makes me believe in the real power of movies again because it makes people identify with the characters and the situations and experience true emotions. We are not identifying with fake celebrities, but with real ordinary and poor people. The insight into the effects of violence and brutality is quite literally illuminating (just like the cinematography). The Orpheus and Eurydice echoes were also powerful because of the way the film weaves together Western and Eastern traditions.”
“Really good! Thank you.”
“What a journey of emotions! Great travel of a life, wow! Danny Boyle always has a way of making an important sound statement too. Emotionally wrenching. Beautifully filmed. How did they shoot those running scenes? Wow! Use of music was great. Flashbacks use was blended and interwoven so skillfully.”
“Beautifully done. Wonderful acting. The cinematography was incredible. Our guest was refreshingly genuine.”
“The slums glamorized by such a passionate love.”
“Interesting use of flashbacks to show development in plot.”
“Dev Patel was really convincing in his role. He’s still so fresh. How wonderful. Sweet film.”
“Brilliant! How we acquire knowledge is more interesting sometimes than what we learn.”
“This film was gorgeous, touching and a treat on every level. What on earth motivated Danny Boyle to step so far out of his usual fare to make this extraordinary movie? The charming articulate young actor made a wonderful guest.”
“Another wonderful guest! Always amazed by the lovers of the slums.”
“Wonderful! A real insight into the trials of kids who have compromised childhood and how they evolve. The acting was superb and the use of flashbacks very effective!”
“Dev Patel was awesome. It was great to see Irfan Khan, ‘THE NAMESTAKE,’ in a small but great supporting role. Latika, Jamal and Salim were great characters. Reminded me of ‘OLIVER TWIST’. Really sucked me in from beginning till the end. Would definitely recommend. Side note: Just returned from London and on ITV1 they did an in depth interview with Danny Boyle and others.”
“Poverty is always so painful to watch and live.”
A+ What an excellent film. The story and the acting and the scenery were excellent. This film touched my heart.”
“Great film, which inspires one to view more Bollywood films.”
“This movie made me excited, emotional, etc. I loved this film. The Q & A after was very interesting.”
“Wow! Quite an experience. Enjoyed the movement from game show to storyline. Makes me want to do an Angelina Jolie and adopt some of the poor children! Striking contrast of poverty and riches. The child actors were excellent.”
“This was a movie so much in love with itself it became impossible to relate to. It was so over the top in its story, its direction and its use of sound and shots I honestly wanted to walk out.”
“I’ll never be able to watch ‘WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE’ without a pain in my stomach again! Brilliant flashbacks to show how he had each answer. Even with our economic recession, it made me grateful for what we have. The only off-putting scene was the Bollywood ending. Wonderful enthusiastic guest.”
“In spite of its brutality this was a very moving and poignant story.”
“Really enjoyed the film. A love story with some social comment. The delightful young man made the Q & A really worthwhile.”
“Not only is it a love story, it is an survival story.”
“While very disturbing at times, this was an interesting film and an interesting take on the ‘Quiz Show’ theme. This young man found the answers to the questions from his experiences in his sad and ill fortuned life and finds his real fortune at the end of the film in love. Excellent acting.”
“A well developed story that holds your interest throughout as you cheer for Jamal. There are some horrifying scenes of what it means to be poor, parentless children in India. Two brothers take to survival and then there’s that great fantasy, or could it really happen? Beautifully photographed and great acting by the main characters at their different ages. A powerful film that I won’t forget for a long time.”
“I thought this was a superb movie.”
“Fabulous film! I loved the credits.”
“Brilliant and brilliantly moving story.”
“A glorious experience.”
