“There must be better ways to die, and not voluntary. The movie s certainly gripping, if much too long and repetitious. My body was shivering when it ended.”
“Love doesn’t quite conquer all.”
“Uncompromising, but a testimony to the human spirit and courage.”
“I’m not able to put myself into the framework of those who choose mountain climbing for sport. This is a movie that I would not choose to see. Although it was well done, all I would think of was why people would choose such adventure, not for me. Seems as if one could choose a better cause to sacrifice one’s life.”
“Extraordinary.”
“Mountain climbing with or without snow and ice is definitely off my list of things to try! A chilling account of man’s struggle against the forces of nature. I felt like I was there! Spectacular photography.”
“Gut wrenching, heart wrenching nerve wracking. I’m cold and tired.”
“Great direction.”
“How did they shoot this film? Is Luisa Fellner a real person/photographer?”
“This was about as stressful a cinematic experience as I’ve ever had! Gorgeous film really drew me into the experience of the climbers and the climate of that time and place. Wonderful cuts contrasting the life of the heroes and that of the reporters and wealthy voyeurs.”
“It was a sad story, but excellent acting.”
“Very good, but a bit too long.”
“Relentlessly compelling! The areas of some compaint: The subtitles could/should have been easier to read; white letters over snow is not a good idea. There was some confusion about the action. I couldn’t determine exactly what the situation was,vis-a-versa. I wasn’t able to totally appreciate the technical limitations as to what was lacking that caused their problems: rope length, how the equipment failed and/or fell short, etc. It was as if you needed to know a little bit more about the sport in order to truly understand the failures. The script could have been a little more explicit to highlight the Germans superiority stance approaching the conquering the mountain even though they made the point just would have appreciated a little more over the top treatment here, just for fun and affect.”
“I was engaged watching this movie.”
“Extremely interesting and powerful. I was waiting for the helicopter to come to come down and save him, then I realized what am I thinking this is 1936.”
“Exciting, poignant film. Hard to comprehend why these young men would pursue this great feat, but watching this film you feel their passion in wanting to escape from Nazi rule. Beautiful scenery and excellent acting.”
“Very exciting.”
“It was so gripping it made me a wreck! Thanks for bringing it to us.”
“The metaphor mix of physically and politically making it to the top at any cost of life gave me the shivers! Literally! Excellent film all around.”
“Thrilling and heartbreaking!”
“What a way to start off the year! Why do meshuganahs think it’s important to climb a mountain just because it’s there? The Nazi motivation and macho personalities combine dangerously to push primarily men to face almost certain death. And for what, fifteen minutes of fame! Loved the back and forth between the luxury and the frozen reality. John, see TOUCHING THE VOICE, I’ll loan it to you if you’ll like.”
“One of the best suspense films done. What a tension brought glimpse into the climber before modern technology.”
“2nd rung of a ladder and I’m hysterical. So, anyway, you wouldn’t catch me there!”
