“This movie was perfect from the spot-on opening titles to the dance and production sequence at the end. The director’s love and knowledge of cinema completely infused the film. Glorious!”
“What a joy!”
“Loved the dancing.”
“It was a special pleasure to explore the characters in silence. Wonderful!”
“A True joy to watch.”
“Bring back style and glamour.”
“This film reinforces the saying that silence is golden and action speaks better than words.”
“Silence was never so loud! I loved it. If only we could just dance perhaps the world would be a better place.”
“After last week’s dialogue it was a pleasure to have so little.”
“Absolutely terrific movie that I’ll recommend to all of my friends.”
“A valentine of a film. There is nothing like B&W, a man and his dog, and a happy ending. The silence was so engaging, the sound was disappointing. Great, like an old fashioned classic.”
“In a word - terrific.”
“Interesting experiment recreating the melodrama of yesteryear. Actually, we could use more silence these days. The music was terrific!”
“In a silent film the musical score becomes very important. The score was wonderful.”
“Just brilliant! At first I thought it was going to be A STAR IS BORN remake, but it fooled me. I have never been a fan of silent films, but this movie was just terrific.”
“The choice of locations, set design and costuming were so perfectly chosen. Each element gave the film an authenticity, which almost felt like this was created in the 1920’s –30’s. The dog was incredible and pulled everything together, a real star! The inclusion of sound really moved the story of the film sound so subtly and perfectly. I loved the Bernard Hermann music from VERTIGO and other homages to earlier filmmakers. The lighting and shadows were amazing. Loved the choice of gorgeous black and white, crisp and clean looking. Finally the actors and the entire cast couldn’t be more perfect! Reminiscent of SUNSET BOULIVARD, the cars, homes deco studio.”
“What a brilliantly crafted, beautifully made gorgeous movie!”
“Thank-You!”
“Wonderful! I did not want it to end.”
“Superb! Magnificently directed, written, shot, acted, scored.. A perfect film. Merci beaucoup!”
“Silent is good for a change. Good acting. Too long. Loved the dog.”
“A wonderful movie! Hopefully will be well received and well rewarded!”
“Wonderful film. Beautiful music. Great entertainment. Five stars!”
“Great movie! Great cars.. What is Uggy’s next movie?”
“A wonderful, wonderful treat. The antithesis of last week’s THE LIE. Speaking of the prior week, I regret John having screened the trailer for THE ARTIST as I make a practice of not viewing coming attractions. The story was basically revealed in that clip and that, in even a small way distracts from the overall pleasure and surprise of the movie, but maybe I should blame myself for having kept my eyes open. The score was terrific, so evocative and moving. The actors are great! The dog is great! The costumes and sets are great! What I’m trying to say is great movie!”
“One look and I have found my future at last… and not a word was spoken. These lyrics from the old ballad sums up this film. Innovative, creative, different, a very fine cinematic endeavor. Makes one think about the Mel Brooks’ film SILENT MOVIE with only Marcel Marceau uttering one word: NO!”
“Terrific film! The acting, the story, music and dancing is wonderful. Will recommend the film! P.S. Dog was terrific as well. Kudos’ to everyone involved with the film! 5 Stars.”
“A great picture that was actually fun! Who needs words?”
“The great film of an artist.”
